A Message from Patsy Egan, LESLLA President

Dear LESLLA Community,

Thank you for considering membership to LESLLA!  While LESLLA scholars have been meeting annually and publishing a yearly proceedings volume since 2005,  we are new to being an "official" organization!  The first LESLLA Board of Directors was elected in fall 2018, and we registered as a non-profit organization (501c3) in March 2019.

Membership to LESLLA is new!  A large group of symposium attendees met in October 2018 in Palermo, Italy, and generated a list of priorities for the organization, which we organized into themes. In order to accomplish our goals of making LESLLA a more sustainable organization and more accessible to educators worldwide, some revenue is needed.  Like other educational professional organizations, we are now offering paid membership to be a part of our listserv and to receive a discount when attending the annual symposium.  Membership revenue will also allow us to maintain our excellent website, offer financial support to those hosting the annual symposium and make the proceedings volume more consistent and less of a burden on conference chairs.  Eventually, we'd like to offer mini-grants to graduate students and other researchers and possibly travel scholarships to those who are not otherwise able to attend the symposium.  The Board of Directors has lots of ideas!

To begin this official membership journey, we ask that LESLLA educators choose to "Become a Member" on this site.  Three membership due rates are available, and we trust you will choose the one that works for you and your personal situation.  Once a member, you are eligible for a conference registration discount, and your email will be entered onto our listserv for official correspondence.  Membership lasts for one calendar year, at which time you'll be asked to renew.

Please note that the LESLLA website, proceedings, and social media pages are all public and available to anyone, and will remain so.  The knowledge base of LESLLA is in no way limited to paid members.  By becoming a member, you are showing your support for this new organization and helping us to grow and strengthen as we move into a new chapter for LESLLA.  Thank you for joining us!

See you in Pittsburgh!

Best,

Patsy
