EU Speak Module Working with LESLLA Learners
Wednesday May 18 to Sunday July 3, 2022
Available in English, German, Italian, Spanish and Turkish
Estimated time commitment: 30 hours
LESLLA and the EU-Speak Board are cooperating to offer this module, one of six on-line EU-Speak modules/courses. Since 2016, these have been taken by practitioners in nearly 40 countries who work with LESLLA learners as classroom teachers or as one-on-one tutors,
Content of the module
Originally designed by the team at Virginia Commonwealth University, the module covers the basics for both classroom teachers and one-on-one tutors:
who literacy learners are;
requirements to prepare to teach/tutor them;
development of print awareness and sound-symbol correspondence;
digital literacy;
culturally responsive practice;
working with multi-level groups;
assessing progress.
Participants join an international, multilingual Discussion Forum to share ideas and respond to questions posed and activities set. The Forum this May-July is mentored by Nan Frydland, Egle Mocciaro, Marcin Sosinski and Martha Young-Scholten.
